Although the directing and closeup shots were admirable, the amateur writing overshadowed the good. It started off fine, then went to dumb, then ended up laughably unrealistic. First act: the father-daughters dynamics were set up perfectly, leaving a suspenseful interest going into the second act. Then the writing becomes weak; there's no logical reason any father - who was clearly very protective of his daughters, would invite them back onto the boat, especially when the two daughters finally grow up and recognize the danger. The false logic here is for him to turn them over to the authorities, when he could've just left them there, and clearly since he had cell service, called the police to get them squatting at the house. Creating such an illogical narrative just kills all suspense created, and starts to become laughable. Then in the third act, he all of a sudden wants to kick them off the boat with a spear gun - no sense, but even worse, the spoiled brat daughter (already having acknowledged the danger), jumps off the boat - for what, spite? That was just laughably dumb. Even all the mini-mystery scenes such as "what's in the box" or "open the bag" was infantile writing, because anyone that has nothing to hide would've easily obliged. At least actually put something questionable in the cooler or the bag instead of something that could've been so easily shown from the start. It's just a lazy and lame red-herring attempt to build suspense, that ultimately lets you down. I also found the color choices in the cinematography to be too bland, and the entire film was too dark. In many scenes, the sky was so bright and the faces too dark. That's just amateur filmmaking. The performances and score however were spot on, and the only reason I'm being generous with my 5/10. I wouldn't recommend it either, and feel I wasted 82 minutes of my time. It's just not worth the good build-up with the many let-downs in the second and third acts. There's many other better films out there similar to this one you're better off watching.
