The Fairmont high school championship soccer team loses three of its key players. Two are murdered, and one is left in a coma. Young Jenna has recently moved from Detroit to California, and she is expected to play a key role as the team's new goalie. But Jenna suddenly finds herself enmeshed in the murder narrative and improbably becomes the prime suspect.
The film relied on the formula of a psychopathic mastermind on the loose. But the pacing of the film was sluggish, and the clues were very slow in developing. It was curious that Alicia enlisted Jenna to find the killer, yet Alicia seemed unwilling to do any investigating herself.
In the film's subplot, Jenna is having trouble adjusting to a new school and environment, and she misses her dad. Her parents have separated, and the mayhem on the soccer team starts to bring the parents back together. There was a thoughtful relationship unfolding between the mother and daughter.
In the end, however, there were too many plot holes and situations that seemed implausible, such as the entire team somehow covering up the death of Lilly. It also was surprising that the team members would be so antagonistic to their new player Jenna. This group of cutthroat players was really not a "team" and thus not of championship caliber the we were led to believe.
