The village life stereotypes, a good handsome boy with unmet emotional needs, a current romantic partner who doesn't seem to get it, this film has got it all, other than the Irish accent.
The film isn't an exact copy of an already unflattering film, it has its own innovations. Inject some new political themes like a plus-sized woman for a lead, who is extra confrontational (but only when it's a man) and extra un-self-aware. Oh yes, she started cheating but technically not cheating on her boyfriend just being apart for a few weeks, romantic.
Joanna Lumley along with Max being 2 of 3 central characters for what is I suppose a promotional film supported by the Scottish tourism board is also out of place. I can only presume this makes it easier to consume for an American audience.
