This is probably the first South African movies I've watched.
The WORLD - South Africa, urban & rural - is new.
The PLOT is an old one - a former intelligence agent/assassin living a new life with the woman he loves and her son and then forced back into his old life to recover a cache of secrets that will bring down an immoral & corrupt politicians on his way to being President and using the country's intelligence services to eliminate his enemies.
The CHARACTERS - are believable and well acted.
I LOVED the use of multiple African languages - including Zulu - in the film.
I also LOVED the use of the Zulu short stabbing spear by the Protagonist (and figured out right from the beginning that the killer in the opening scene was from the Zulu tribe).
The storyline is solid, the cinematography beautiful, the acting is stellar and the action is well paced but not frantic as in so many Western movies.
This movie spends more time with character and story development than it does with maniac chase & fight scenes.
Still, the story is filled with plenty of CONFLICT & COMPLEXITY.
There are, however, very few real TWISTS & TURNS. We saw almost everything coming.
The death of a main character by accident is not something we ever see in a Western movie. Not everyone makes that jump that might save them.
There are also very few real SETUPS & PAYOFFS.
Still, I found this a wonderful movie.
