Jules Walker is a talented artist who runs a studio where she teaches other artists. The paintings for the current project were self-portraits, and they were very good.
The main action was a melodramatic tug-of-war between Jules and her abusive husband Billy. At the precise moment when Jules was ready to divorce him, a mysterious fire occurred in their home in which Billy died. Or did he?
Jules often experiences moments when Billy returns from the grave. Is the sinister presence of Billy deriving from Jules' imagination? Or is it conceivable that he faked his death?
The good questions raised in the film were undermined by an overly talky screenplay. There simply wasn't enough action to sustain any significant dramatic tension. The film bordered on opera in the long expostulations of Jules Walker. So, in every breath she takes, one must be prepared for a lengthy aria.
