This film was a total random choice. One of those where I think to myself "I need to justify my Sky movies subscription and actually watch something". I tend to steer towards the indie, horror or comedy sections. Anyway, this appeared in the indie section and sounded OK from the description given.
Within the first 15 minutes I did think about switching this off because it just felt a bit flat and boring, like it didn't know where it was going. This is no Bridget Jones's Diary in terms of romantic comedy about thirty something singletons.
But as it progressed I actually came to appreciate that there were no big comedy moments or set-ups. Everything kind of flowed along naturally and the comedy came subtly through the script rather than it being thrown at you. Some people might find the "naturalistic" look to the movie difficult. It looks to have been shot totally using real locations rather than on a sound stage, and the script kind of feels like how people actually speak in the real world.
The ending is actually kind of nice, and shows that women can be valued and value themselves on more than just being a girlfriend/wife/lover. If you're looking for a big romcom run through the airport or lovely wedding then don't watch this.
