In the world of Burr, Jim Jeffries, Chappelle, Gervais, and a few others... it seems difficult to standout in the comic world. I'll also admit that I haven't paid much attention to The Daily Show since Jon Stewart left. It just hasn't been as funny and the correspondents always seem like bottom of the barrel including the random segments I've seen with Ronny.
There was a clip of this special floating around online that delayed my viewing of this special. The clip taken out of context definitely made it seem not funny... terrible choice for the person that put that clip out. With that being said, going in to this special I completely expected to get bored and turn it off.
This set is hilarious. I found myself laughing at multiple parts throughout. Being a white guy, I didn't expect for any of the Asian perspective humor to land. Having an Asian fiance along with future in-laws... oh my gah, did some of those jokes land.
The jokes are good but it was clear that Ronny is an excellent storyteller too. For the most part, Ronny is being honest in this special. I think it helps that he has lived in a few different countries.
I'll be paying attention and I'll look forward to what this guy does in the future.
