MIKE MCCALLUM - THE 5th KING
A Tribute to one of my favourite boxers to lace the gloves, in an era of unbelievable talent. Marvin Hagler, Tommy Hearn's, Roberto Duran, Sugar Ray Leonard are all boxers who have inspired me in some capacity. This is a tribute to the lesser know, but equally great, Mike McCallum. In the history of boxing, there aren’t many legendary fighters more underrated than Jamaican native Mike McCallum. McCallum’s ability to skillfully fight both inside and outside was rare. He was a master boxer who was also one of the greatest body punchers that ever lived and earned him his nickname, the body snatcher. A multi weight world champion McCallum was a slick, hard-hitting technician, and was known for his exceptional toughness, never being stopped in any of his five losses. However, for much of his career, the highly skilled boxer-puncher was deemed too much risk versus not enough reward and was one of the most avoided fighters of his era. McCallum was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2003 and, In 2011, The Ring magazine ranked him as eighth on their list of the "10 best middleweight of the last 50 years."
