Absolutely amazing psychological movie that brings the Dust Bowl, and those who suffered from it most, to life! Warning: this is a slow-burn, not an action-packed, jump-scare laden horror. This very much dives into the minds and emotions of what people must have felt then, given certain sutuations.
Paulson was absolutely fantastic! Everyone was, actually! No complaints about the acting! Costumes, great! Sets? Usually okay, but it was a little to obvious when they switched from genuine outdoors to an indoor-that-looks-like-outdoors sets.
The story was phenomenal, but I wish it had informed us as to what happened to cause the giant hole in the wall of the house; it didn't look 'unfinished'; it looked like someone had been thrown through. I also wish we knew what happened to the third sister, how she died and why. Two stars off for those unanswered questions, bit otherwise a very solid movie!
Edit: I don't understand the low ratings. I wasn't expecting much from this movie myself, but was pleasantly surprised! It kept me watching all the eay through, and that's saying something! But if deep insights int family drama and psychological issues aren't your thing, you aren't going to like it.
