Wrestling Bios Presents - The Life and Career of Mean Gene Okerlund When it comes to WWE interviewers and television hosts, there was no one better than Mean Gene Okerlund. If there was a backstage interview that needed done during WWF TV shows, Mean Gene was the man for the job, and he was always excellent. Mean Gene Okerlund not only done a great job at interviewing wrestlers, but he also added his own charm to the interviews, making some seriously entertaining segments that today's WWE hosts and interviewers just can't match up to. Gene Okerlund began his career as a radio DJ but transitioned over to the AWA. In the AWA, Okerlund met Hulk Hogan, and when the Hulkster moved to the WWF to begin the rise of Hulkamania, Mean Gene followed him. In the WWF, Mean Gene Okerlund would become the voice of wrestling, interviewing all the big stars on TV while the company was seeing exceptional growth. Mean Gene would take his skillset to WCW also, where he was involved in some of the company's biggest and most important moments. After an 8 year WCW career, Mean Gene returned to the WWE.
