This was Homer's third fight in his comeback, he was still under all kinds of skepticism as to whether or not he could still fight. He decided the best way to prove it was to show them. He was willing to fight at a bigger weight class despite being warned by doctors it could be against better judgement. Homer has always been one, you can't tell "NO" because he will set out to prove you wrong. Homer was spurred on to fight Willie McDonald after some words erupted in the gym, you know fighters and their pride. The corner was worried that Homer may have bitten off more than he could chew with Willie being bigger and stronger. Plus the night of the fight Willie, who had been fighting at light heavy weight just looked all around thicker and he was more comfortable at that weight. Everyone knows pride goes before the fall but Homer demonstrated great composer during this fight. He was always good with using his own crazy antics along with his mouth to keep his opponent angry and unable to think. In a fight or in life you can never be assured of victory because the outcome is undetermined until the final bell rings. After this fight some of the doctors who advised Homer on his comeback were silent but Dr. John "Jack" Griffin wasn't impressed nor willing to be persuaded to think differently. This fight only encouraged Homer to press on.
