Heather is broke. She has a soul sucking job as a stripper. Her live-in girlfriend Victoria has a baby and a coke problem. Her boss Harry is an abusive maniac. Life cannot get much worse... or so she thought. Determined to get out of this living hell, Heather and her lover, Bunny, plan to rip off Harry, ditch Victoria, and leave town to live out their days on the Greek islands in peaceful bliss. One big score is all they need, and Harry gives them the opportunity when he asks them to take care of a drug deal with one of his clients at an old warehouse. As Heather and her friends arrive, everything seems to be going fine until they make a grizzly discovery and are trapped inside by a rambling, religious maniac hell-bent on purifying the Earth of its sins through murder and destruction. Armed with a carpenter's hammer and a fanatic passion, the Cross Bearer hunts Heather and her friends down one-by-one in a sadistic crusade to burn clean the filth of the world. Heather's dreams are shattered and if she survives nothing will ever be the same. Unflinchingly raw, primal, and horrifying, Cross Bearer is a trip to the darkest, most vile side of humanity.

I enjoy some low budget films. This has some bad moments and shaky acting from a couple of the cast .......Issac Mathews (Cross Bearer) sadly being the worst. He couldn't have been any less threatening if he tried. Became amusing as he stalked about with the hammer on the air......it was so camp I couldnt help but chuckle. Shame really as with a better actor this could have been quite a dark savage character, I love a good claw hammer death and this is the main weapon of choice. He just couldn't pull it off and it lowered the threat factor greatly. Cast is mostly made up women who have since seen their best years behind them and play prostitutes and low class strippers with varying acting skills. Attempts at sub plots and character development feel thrown in tk tey tk make you feel for and care for the character but you just want to see the next death asap. The gore isnt groundbreaking and most could create it, but it does decide to throw a nice amount of blood and brains about but not much actual make up effects at all. Despite all these negatives I still kind da enjoyed the sleaziness of it all. A little backstory to the Cross Bearer would have helped a lot. Rather than the usual lazy.....he hates sin, so gonna kill everyone direction. Seen worse. Far far worse and the hammer and locations were good. Check it out if like low budget films with hammered heads and gore. Saggy boobed strippers and religious nut bags and cliche scumbag strip joints t owners and puimps.

Life cannot get much worse... or so she thought. This film is spoiled by rather weak performances and an almost non-existent plot. But we quickly get the impression that acting and plot were not really concerns for those involved. Rue Morgue says the film "was a huge hit with the underground horror community" and used copies were selling for $100 before a second run. Those who dropped the cash surely did not get their money's worth. We have some staples of Doug Sakmann and Backseat Conceptions: the excessive amount of naked women and the excellent gore (Sakmann tends to run in the same circles as the Suicide Girls and adult stars like Joanna Angel). Pretty sure I saw "XXX-orcist" in the background at one point. As a bonus, I learned the term "the High Five" which had somehow previously escaped me.

I understand some of the reasons why CROSS BEARER is getting low reviews, but come'on, 1 out of 10? That is not fair. There are much worse films out there with bigger budgets that are more deserving of a 1 than this. I get it, though. Some unintentionally(?) funny/corny lines (like the one I used in my header summary). The acting was nothing to write home about, but it was passable. The gore effects were decent. The lighting was really good. The girls were pretty hot for the most part. I would have liked it better though if the killer talked less. The bag or whatever it was he wore over his head was pretty cool. That was probably the only scary aspect to the film. I do think the filmmakers have potential with a bigger budget and I am looking forward to watching THE CEMETERY hopefully sometime soon.

The film introduces us to a righteous vigilante intent on killing drug dealers, strippers, prostitutes, and pimps. The film then focuses on the life of a lesbian * (Natalie Jean) with a Philadelphia slang background. We then go back to the bloody killer (Isaac Williams) who uses a hammer to bash heads to produce some of the reddest blood around. The plot pretty well sucked, but I have to give it 3 stars for all the sex and nudity...thank you Dawn Vaughn, Kacie Marie, Wyn Nugyen, Kalsey Lehman, Raichyl Sinversa, Suzi Pang, Brittany Reardon, Janet Searfoss and many more.

While I haven't seen this movie just the synopsis is enough to tell me all I want to know. The main character is a * living with a woman who has a kid from a man and has a drug problem, has a girlfriend she is cheating with and wants to run away with, has to do a job(commit a crime) to get out of the hated life. Then we get treated to a psychopath who just happens to be Christian and wants to kill all degenerates? Really we have a junkie * who is about to commit a crime and run away with a lover. I, and I am sure many feel this way, are tired of being told that criminals and drug addicts are good, that alternate lifestyles are normal, and that God is somehow involved in making people murderers.

I dunno why exactly, but I gave this one a 4! Usually I don't do this with such bad movies, but it had some good parts in it. Now, even before beginning to explain myself, I'm gonna say one thing: I do NOT recommend Cross Bearer! To no one! So, the acting was not as bad as I expected, usually you get much worse than this. The gore was kinda OK I guess for such a low budget horror, nudity fully present, some natural acts, good decisions, interesting "mask" design and a plot that ties itself in the middle of the movie. The camera work is actually better than most such productions, so all in all, there are some good things here, but if you see it, you'll understand why this should be avoided. It still is a bad production, weak plot, horrible main actor, well the killer that is, annoying at its best. Therefore, Cross Bearer will remain a No-No, hope you people will trust the reviews and stay away from this one. If not, you're only going to waste time. Cheers!

I enjoyed some of Cross Bearer because I'm a fan of practical make-up effects, but other than that? I waited a long time to see a real dud of a film. There are times I'm fooled by a movie with some cool looking art-I admit it. I saw Cross Bearer's cover art, and I said "I have to see this". So I waited, waited, waited, and finally I was able to see it. What a disappointment. Not only is the acting cold and wooden, the writing is just bad. This is a typical horror film, and if you've seen enough horror you know this is just a rehash of so many other better films which were executed at a higher level than this. Even as far as slashers go, this is just weak. Like I said, there are some effects worth seeing, even a little decent cinematography at times, the look and feel of it, but you can't go for all style over substance, you just can't! This is not old school horror, this is also nothing new- I don't recommend seeing this. At least not if you have something more promising to watch. If you want to see another run-of- the-mill slasher, the same thing you've seen time and time again, then go ahead. I give it a 2 out of 10, only because some of the effects were enjoyable, and I also liked how they didn't go for something too ridiculous for a mask; it was a simple look, and I kind of dug it. Other than that? Skip it.

Where can one begin ? With this pile of pus, anywhere. What a load of tripe. This isn't dark, gritty and sleazy, it's dumb, gross and stupid. Acting - zero. Story - zero. Believability - zero. Camera steadiness - 1. Lighting - surprisingly, good. Corny Crappiness - gazillion. No originality, no skill, no interest, tired, clichéd, done a million times before with much better effect. Scratch that, with ANY effect. Another example of why digital cameras should be sold with a license and a public listing as to where to serve the budding film-maker with a writ for wasting our precious time. If you want to make films, make a name for yourself, be a director, *source talent*, starting with yourself, including script, story, acting and above all else, grab the audience and make the film something *memorable*, but with bloody orginality, not with a ridiculous script and hammy actors. Serving up excreta and expecting the public to make you a household name just gives the public a reason (and the right) to sling the poop right back at you. No matter how small the budget, there is no excuse for a crap product and if you want to go somewhere & be somebody, put in some effort and TALENT, rise about the efforts of a 7 year old with school friends, a towel, and some tomato sauce, making a film in mummy & daddy's backyard. That goes tenfold for anyone that writes gushing meretricious drivel, praising a thimble of flea dung as the next "Michaelangelo of Movies", in order to hoodwink some poor fool into watching 90 minutes of dross for some hidden reasons, like you were an extra on the film, know the friend of someone who once knew someone who went to school with one of the make-up girls, or were promised $10 if you write a good review for pure puke. This movie is torture *, plain and simple. It's got the usual crap you see in most horror movies these days: bad acting, bad script, victim knocks the killer out but doesn't check to make sure the killer is dead, characters splitting up, no cell phone service, etc. When I was watching this movie I thought, "People aren't even trying to make anything new and engaging with horror movies these days. It's all about rehashing the same junk." And that's pretty much all this movie is: just a rehashing of the same junk any horror fan has seen before. The killer wears a bedsheet over his head. I subscribe to the idea that if you're going to conceal the killer's identity, give him a good disguise or a gruesome face. Don't just give him a bedsheet and a hammer and expect people to be scared. Without the credits, the movie is less than 65 minutes. And even within those 65 minutes there isn't much to watch. Much of it is just establishing the cardboard characters and their lives and long scenes inside a stripclub. I don't mind scenes of strippers at work. But I get the feeling the director put those scenes in the movie to keep the viewers interested and to pad together a movie that would have been a 30-40 min. short without the stripclub scenes. All in all, if you've seen torture * movies before then you know what you're getting into if you decide to watch Cross Bearer. So you only have yourself to blame if you watch it and end up hating it. I tried to warn you by putting out this 1-star review of this movie that deserves 0 stars at most.
